Third Creative Industries Consultation-Workshop
SUMMARY OF DISCUSSION
1. Meeting Objective/s – Mr. Ronald Rodriguez relayed that the meeting is being convened to solicit ideas from the Creative Industries Initiatives (CII) given that the 2008 State of Philippine Competitiveness (SPC) is fast approaching. Among other things, the meeting specifically put forward the following things:
Content and programme flow of 2008 SPC, Mapping and Clustering of Creative Industries, and Conference exhibits
2. Content and programme flow of 2008 SPC– To further give a more momentous programme for the conference, the following where tackled:
a. Prospective Panel Discussants/Moderators – Suggestions to include practioners and somebody from the enterprise business where addressed. Among others, the following were recommended to be invited: Ranulf Goss, Kenneth, Clayton Tomongon, De donne, a representative from Padua Furniture, Ed Calma, Rey Velasco of UPLB, Emmy Roman, Budji Layug, and a creative industry customer or potential buyer.
In addition, there were issues raised in terms of the reasons behind including Atty. Cristobal as a panel moderator and Mr. Perlada as a panel discussant. Dr.Macaranas pointed out that the conference will not be guided by government people given that there were only 2 representatives from the government side and that we should recognize the Public-Private Partnership as a main tool in this contemporary world.
b. Panel Discussion- In order to think out of the box, to generate audience interest, and improve legislation through capturing the government’s attention, Ms. Macdonald maintained that we should have an alternative method for the panel discussion instead of the traditional way. She is suggesting to have a different output:
Participants in the Consultation-Worshop raised the following issues during the Open Forum:
Energy + Exchange = Feedback
In this way, we could deepen the people’s analysis by seeding the room with different method of interaction. Mr. Ruiz commented that its one way to piggyback innovation. Mr. Schumacher further suggested to engage the CEOs on this event.
c. Programme Flow- Mr. Luz proposed to re-structure the programme: focused on half-a-day on competitiveness covering the 2008 World Competitiveness Yearbook (WCY) and the National Competitiveness Council (NCC) Report and make use of another half-a-day to focus more on Creative Industries. Mr. Schumacher agreed since CEOs will not seat in a lengthy kind of report or presentation and Dr. Macaranas likewise suggested that we should then revisit the plan.
On one hand, Ms. Ravelas noted that we should maximize opportunity. Have a snippet of a short animation or a brief presentation on Creative Industries before the panel discussion.
3. Clustering and Mapping
-Initially, Mr. Ruiz briefly explained the CII output in clustering given the UNESCO and UNCTAD Framework as models. Dr. Macaranas stated that the CII clustering mainly focuses on creative inputs instead of capturing creative outputs.
-Mr. Luz observed that the UNESCO framework primarily focuses on product lines, be it tangible or intangible products.
-Dr. Macaranas further noted that the framework serves a useful purpose: taxonomy.
-Dr. Macaranas proposed that he will integrate the Creative Industry Initiative clustering with the UNESCO and UNCTAD Framework in his presentation.
4. Conference Exhibits
-Mr. Ruiz as the point person for the exhibit.
