Continuing Regulatory Education for Stakeholders in Media with the Energy Regulatory Commission
On 26 August 2009, the AIM Policy Center, in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) and the USAID Energy and Clean Air Project, hosted the first ERC-Media Dialogue. The event brought together resource persons from the ERC and the energy beat reporters in the aim of enhancing the media’s understanding of energy issues. ERC Chairperson and CEO Zenaida G. Cruz-Ducut gave the opening remarks while Atty. Francis Saturnino C. Juan, ERC Executive Director, together with Service Directors from the ERC, led the dialogue proper, which focused on the role of the ERC in the energy sector, energy pricing, market reforms and consumer welfare.
A press conference was also held to address the media’s questions on the following press releases issued by the ERC:
- Issuance of new Rules for the Automatic Recovery of Monthly Fuel and Purchased Power Costs and Foreign Exchange-Related Costs by the National Power Corporation, approved by the ERC on 3 August 2009;
- Adoption of new rates and lifeline discount scheme for VECO customers, issued on 7 August 2009;
- Approval of Provisional Authority for the Visayan Supply Augmentation Auction, granted on 24 August 2009 to address the power supply deficit in the Visayas grid.
